In an exciting move for the Newton Community, we are inviting as many parents as have an opinion to come and give us their view on two important aspects of school life: how you, as parents who have chosen, would advise those coming up behind you to think about when choosing a prep school - and how to best handle being part of the parental community once you’re at the school. If you could spare an hour of your time from 8.30-9.30am next Tuesday, please come and participate in our first Newton Focus Group (scroll down to sign up) in the Chairman’s Boardroom. Tea and coffee will be served there from 8.10am.

The hour will be split into two: the first part run by Independent School Parent, a well-established magazine published for parents who are considering sending their children to an independent school.  “Alison Fleming sits on the Editorial Advisory Board and has agreed to help the publishers try and build a greater understanding of what parents think about when choosing the right school. Everyone realises that sending a child to an independent school is a heavy financial commitment, so we are keen to hear what you would like to have known when making this all-important decision yourself. Please do come along and help us to help all those new parents who are just starting out”.

For the second part, we are lucky enough to get a first look at Ugenie, a community task management tool started up by a Newton mum, “that will allow users to post a variety of needs or tasks into custom groups for task sharing or outsourcing. For example, if a parent needed to car-pool, or arrange a playdate or look for recommendations for a nanny or music teacher, he or she would be able to post into the Newton Prep group to share this need with the other parents.  The app would then either notify the appropriate parents (whether based on geography or a similar need) to contact each other to discuss or use the integrated referral system. This could translate to a variety of other wishes and school-related tasks across the life of the school.  A focus group of parents and administrators will help us determine what is most important to your community and we can ensure to build those features.”
