N@25 Silver Symphony Launch a Solid Silver Success!

N@25 Silver Symphony Launch a Solid Silver Success!
Arts, Drama & Music Parents

Friday 25th November will live on as an exciting day for anyone interested in music. Not only did it see the launch of the Silver Symphony Appeal (see below), we also enjoyed an incredible day of music-making with the professional musicians of the London Mozart Players, culminating in an extraordinary concert immediately after school. The concentration writ large on the faces of all players, right from least experienced, our Year 2 violinists, up to their most experienced, from beginning to end was awe-inspiring.

Vivaldi, Bartok  and even a few Christmas numbers were all featured by our mixed orchestra, with Newton Prep musicians shadowing the players of this wonderfully community-minded professional orchestra, the London Mozart Players. All culminated in a glorious rendition of Saint-Saens's Carnival of the Animals, with duelling pianos, a lyrical cello 'Swan' and a wonderfully booming brass Elephant.

"I loved the whole day - it was amazing learning directly from these incredible players and the concert itself made me so proud to play my instrument," said one Year 5 cellist. "What a fabulous opportunity for both the children to partake in - and for us parents to listen to a proper concert, with a proper orchestra, of which we can feel truly proud that our son was a part of," praised one departing parent.

All photographs of the day have now been put online - please click here to go straight to our Flickr site, or check out the Gallery icon here on our website.

We have commissioned a secret composer to write a 10-minute choral and orchestral piece to celebrate Newton Prep and mark its 25th anniversary. From this, the extra legacy will be a school song, to be performed at everything from assemblies, to fixtures to any school competitions.

We are appealing to the Newton Community near and far to help create this unique legacy by launching The Silver Symphony Appeal, to fund both the commission and the gala performance at Cadogan Hall in July 2017. This will be the culmination of our entire year of celebrating Newton@25.

With The Silver Symphony Appeal, we are offering parents a unique way to 'buy' the musical part of each instrument. If we raise just £2,000 we will perform the Silver Symphony with just a string quartet and a small group of singers. If we raise £14,000 we will perform the Silver Symphony with a full orchestra of both Newton Prep players and London Mozart Players as well as a full choir of both children, staff and parents for a massive musical extravaganza in July! Donors will be commemorated permanently in a number of ways.
