Community Parents

All parents and children are invited to come and steal an inside march on TfL's plans for improving Nine Elms Lane and along Battersea Park Road.

Representatives from Transport for London (TfL) will be at Newton Prep on Thursday 29th June at 4.15 pm in the Recital Hall, to present their transformative highway proposals for Battersea Park Road and Nine Elms Lane. Extending 2.5km from Macduff Road to Vauxhall Gyratory, the scheme includes the two junctions with Havelock Terrace and Queenstown Road.

On the 3rd July, an 8-week public consultation period will go live to share designs and gather feedback on proposals. With work on site anticipated for 2020/2021, the scheme will deliver improvements for pedestrians, cyclists and bus users. Current planned changes would allow for the 23 new and improved signalised crossing points, widened footways and segregated cycle tracks in both directions for the majority of the scheme. High-quality urban realm finishes, such as new tree planting and paving, will also make the street a more welcoming and enjoyable place to be.

Ahead of the final transformative highways scheme, TfL will be implementing a number of interim safety measures in the area, with work due to start in late summer 2017. Works in the school’s vicinity will include some new pedestrian crossings, localised re-paving and resurfacing, and safety measures for cyclists. Clearer road markings for the segregation and interaction of traffic, will improve road safety around Newton Prep.

The presentation is a great opportunity to hear from those responsible for managing our roads, and gain an insight into how the designs and interim safety measures affect our community. We would highly encourage you to come along. TfL are keen to hear feedback, and there will be ample time for questions and answers after the presentation.

When the public consultation is launched, details for the scheme will be available to view at www.tfl.gov.uk/nine-elms-lane.
