Cadogan Hall End of Year Celebration

This year, as many of you know, we staged an End of Year Celebration at Cadogan Hall that none of us will ever forget! As well as all prizes given and our traditional goodbye to, and chance to hear from, our wonderful Year 8s, we put more people onto the stage than we have ever done before! Combining our Senior Choir, our Senior Orchestra, Louis Davison on drums, Seb Robinson at the grand piano and a full orchestra from the London Mozart Players, our outgoing Director of Music Mr Peckham conducted the gala premiere of his Silver Symphony, ‘And the Apple Falls’, based on Newton’s Laws of Motion and composed especially to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the School.

What a fantastic and moving way to end our Newton@25 programme and what a wonderful sound the amassed musicians made, our players shadowing the LMP musicians with a professionalism beyond their years. Mr Peckham, you pulled it out of the bag!

In the months since, Mr Lockwood has been slaving over a wonderful recreation of the performance, creatively using a mixture of fixed-film footage, rehearsal footage, parent-filmed footage and Susannah Frieze's photographs of both rehearsals and the performance itself. The result is a triumph and we defy anyone not to be moved.... how many other prep schools can claim to have staged such a distinctive musical showcase?!
