Mrs Gascoine, alongside Mr Archdale, recently led a dedicated staff training session on the many benefits of Outdoor Learning as an inspiring and dynamic approach to teaching across the whole school. This initiative emphasises how lessons taken beyond the classroom can enrich every area of the curriculum, helping pupils to connect more deeply with their learning. During the training, staff enthusiastically took part in a wide range of practical activities linked to current curriculum topics. These activities, designed to support learners from Nursery through to Year 8, demonstrated how being outdoors can spark curiosity, increase engagement, improve focus and ultimately raise attainment.
These ideas have now begun to be embedded in practice, with examples including Year 3 using natural materials outside to create Stone Age cave paintings to help them understand their topic further and Year 4 played a dartboard game to practise adding and subtracting.
