Newton Prep opened its doors in September 1991 with 70 pupils and five dedicated teachers, marking a momentous new beginning. What started as a vision, nurtured by its Chairman and Founder, Dr Farouk Walji, has blossomed into one of the largest prep schools in the UK. Our first Headmaster was Jim Cussell, followed by Richard Dell (1993-2006), Nicholas Allen (2006-2013), and Alison Fleming (2013-2025), before Graeme McCafferty took up the post in September 2025.

Dr Farouk WaljiWe want children to develop good learning habits, to realise that success comes from hard work or in the words of Sir Isaac Newton: ‘My powers are ordinary. Only my application brings me success.’ Underpinning all of this, we want children to be decent and kind to each other. We want them to respect difference; to be tolerant and kind; to celebrate the successes of others; to show compassion for those in need. These values drive our school.
Chairman & Founder
The foundation of Newton Prep was a true labour of love, and its constant evolution over the past three decades continues to be guided by Dr Walji’s enduring commitment. We celebrate this remarkable journey of growth, care, and guidance that has shaped Newton Prep into the thriving educational institution it is today, deeply rooted in the heart of London.
