Sarah HalesDeputy Head Pastoral Years 6, 7 and 8 |
We take pride in the quality of the guidance we offer parents when it comes to choosing a senior school. Our Deputy Head Pastoral Years 6, 7 and 8, Sarah Hales, whose main focus is to support and navigate children and parents through the transfer processes, ensures that we find the right senior school for every child.
There is no doubt that the pressure on places at independent senior schools has increased in recent years. Therefore, the advice to parents begins formally in the Spring Term of Year 5 with a general meeting, followed by the opportunity for a one-to-one meeting to discuss your child and make a plan for their next steps. This meeting is the start of continued communication between parents and the school. We will continue to advise and guide parents until the last day of Year 6 or Year 8 when your child moves on.
Newton families are interested in a wide range of schools, both day and boarding. Last year we sent children to 46 different schools. We have built strong relationships with all of these schools and many more to ensure that the transition for all children is smooth. In addition, every two years, we organise a Senior Schools Fair. At our last fair, we had representatives from over 90 schools representing the best of London day schools and the UK's boarding schools for boys, girls and co-ed. It was a fantastic opportunity for parents to meet Heads and senior staff.
The current pandemic has made senior school transfer more challenging than ever. For that reason, we have a live overview that lists the changes to entrance procedures, as well as giving details of virtual Open Events offered by our senior schools.
