Newton Prep has been awarded the Silver AI Quality Mark by the Good Future Foundation, recognising the school’s developing whole-school approach to artificial intelligence (AI), digital learning and responsible technology use.

“The award of the Silver AI Quality mark recognises the dedication of staff across the school to embrace artificial intelligence where it benefits our children. We have a duty to prepare pupils for a rapidly changing society and to provide staff with innovative and effective ways of working. We also remain committed to the things that make us human, including mutual respect, creativity, real-life connection and cognitive challenge.  We are so proud that our approach to embedding AI has been recognised and accredited by the Good Future Foundation.”
Mr Dobbing- Assistant Head Digital Strategy and Innovation

At Newton Prep, digital learning is embedded throughout the school, from Nursery to Year 8. Pupils encounter technology in age-appropriate ways, developing skills in coding, robotics, digital design and app development, while applying their learning across the curriculum. Projects include creating stop-motion poetry films, exploring tectonic plates through augmented reality and developing practical solutions using electronics and robotics.

AI literacy is an increasingly important part of this provision. Pupils are supported to develop an understanding of how AI works, alongside the critical skills needed to question its outputs and recognise issues such as bias, misinformation and inaccurate information. Safeguarding, privacy and academic integrity remain central to the school’s approach.

The Good Future Foundation’s assessment recognised Newton Prep’s clear strategic vision, dedicated digital leadership and commitment to staff development. A Digital Steering Group supports the school’s coordinated approach, while targeted professional development helps staff explore how AI can support teaching, adaptive learning and school administration.

Innovation at Newton Prep also extends to pupil-led projects. In 2025, a Year 8 team reached the national final of the Apps for Good competition with an app designed to support mental health, demonstrating how pupils can use technology to explore real-world challenges. This year, our pupils are engaged in practical projects where they learn how technology can be used to create a more sustainable society.

The Silver AI Quality Mark is an important milestone in Newton Prep’s ongoing development of digital learning. The school will continue to build pupils’ understanding of the strengths and limitations of AI, explore opportunities to integrate it meaningfully across the curriculum and involve pupils and families in shaping its future approach.

Our aim is to ensure that pupils leave Newton Prep not only confident in using technology, but equipped to question it, understand its limitations and make responsible choices in an increasingly digital world.
