At Newton Prep we love our planet AND we love learning, so we celebrated Climate Strike Day by being true to both those principles!
As the sun rose above the school this morning, the pitter patter of feet could be heard making their way to the AWP. It was a wonderful scene of green and blue. Anticipation grew and the odd sound of silence dawned amongst the crowd. Alexis D delivered a heartfelt speech celebrating everyone’s efforts in showing that they care about the future of the planet and with that the children headed off around the astro, posters in hand. Far from striking, the children worked hard to create a picture of the earth using their own bodies! It was a wonderful scene and by 9.30am everyone was back in lessons, ready to put this real life lesson into practice…
Nor were Lower School left out of the day’s celebrations, taking to the front playground for their own march, with wonderful posters made out of recycled boxes and paper. The playground rang joyfully to the sounds of ‘We love our planet!’ and ‘Save our Bees’ before it was time for break to be over and our green gods and goddesses went back to work (and play)…. With thanks to both our Upper School and Lower School Sustainability Officers, Lucy Harrison and Gen Abram, for organising such a happy start to the day!
Below is a selection of images, but click here for our Flickr albums, where you can see the full set of both Lower and Upper School photos...
Miss Harrison thanks the Upper School children for all their helpfulness and attention....
